Report & Results:
Grass
Kickin’ 5K & 3K Kids Run
Aug.
2, 2008
It was a great race at The Prairie Center in Olathe , Kansas
. The weather was hot but that did not turn away the 60 runners ready to take on a challenging 5K course.
Out of the 60 runners only one or two had ever been to the park. It was a new experience for most.
The first 1.3 miles of the course are very nice and then the fun begins. Before the race the runners were warned that
the final mile would be mainly uphill. When most runners crossed the finish line they all agreed that it
was a very challenging last mile.
In addition, to the 5K this year we added the first ever Grass
Kickin’ 3K kids run. There were only 4 runners but what a group it was. All four
took the lead early and left there pacers far behind. After a mile and a half all of the kids crossed the
finish line smiling and having fun.
Now that we have a set location for this race I hope that the number
of runners in both events will grow in the future.
Thanks to the park for letting us use a beautiful setting for a race.
Also we need to thank Garry Gribbles for hosting registration on Friday, Dr Jesse Walden,
DC (Active Release Techniques) for his services at the finish line, and all of the wonderful Trail Nerd volunteers
who made the race happen. If there are any problems with the results please e-mail me at amos_k@sbcglobal.

Race Location & Details:
How to get there: The park is located about 3 miles west of K-7
on 135th ST (also known as Santa Fe) The Prairie Center has very limited parking. We encourage you to carpool (read
below for more info).
Brief Description of course:
A cross country run on the grass that even a "Trail Nerd" or "Roadie" could love.
A very fast, beautiful, and fun course.
Registration:
Registration will only be taken the morning of the race and at Garry Gribble's
Running Sports (119th & Quivira location) from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, August 1st.
Cost:
The entry fee will be $10.00. Many random fun prizes will be given out during
the event. Trail Nerd shirts will be on sale before and after the event.
Carpooling Special Award:
Trail Nerd shirts will be awarded to the drivers of any cars that have 4 or more
runners in one vehicle. (We will have a volunteer at the parking lot entrance handing out certificates for the t-shirts).
Walmart or Price Chopper on the corner of K-7 and Santa Fe would be a great place to meet.
Kid's Run and Parental Participation:
In both the 3K and 5K events, parents of kids 10 y.o. or under can run with their child for free...just
sign the waiver.
Charitible Contributions:
Entry proceeds (after expenses) to go to the Kansas City Trail Nerds (KC Track
Club) for trail maintenance and trail building activities. KC Track Club is a 501c3 charitable organization. By the way, the
Trail Nerds have performed a lot of trail maintenance in the area, and give a great proportion of our proceeds to the Kansas Trails Council and the Earth Riders Trails Association.
